Law Firm Denies Sending 'Amicus Curiae' in Ex-AGP's Pre-trial Hearing

During a pre-trial hearing on Wednesday, Febrie Adriansyah's legal team requested access to an 'amicus curiae' brief reportedly submitted by the law firm Widjojanto, Sonhaji & Associates. Febrie's lawyer, Firman Wijaya, asked the presiding judge to display the document, explaining that his team had not yet received a copy. Presiding Judge Richard Edwin Basoeki confirmed that the South Jakarta District Court had received the amicus curiae. He clarified that his previous statement was to ascertain if all parties had received a copy. "So what I conveyed yesterday was to ensure whether the parties had received the copies, which we obtained was sent to us," the judge explained. "Whether it arrived or not, we have no authority. We only informed the parties that this court, in this case the judge examining the case, received the letter and the letter was also addressed to cases 134 and 135," he added.

Following the judge's response, both Febrie's legal team and the Attorney General's Office legal team requested to view the amicus curiae. Judge Basoeki presented the document, allowing both sides to examine it directly, though he did not read its contents aloud. The document was reportedly sent to the court concerning cases 134 and 135.

However, in a separate confirmation, former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto denied any involvement. "I have never created or signed an Amicus Curiae," Widjojanto stated. Previously, Febrie had asked the South Jakarta District Court's sole judge to nullify his detention by the Attorney General's Office, deeming the detention order invalid and without legal binding force. The Attorney General's Office, however, maintains that the suspect designation and money laundering investigation are based on valid legal grounds.
