Lazio signs Spanish defender Alfonso Pedraza from Villarreal

Italian club Lazio has announced the signing of Spanish left-back Alfonso Pedraza on a three-year deal. The 30-year-old defender arrives from Spanish side Villarreal, where he spent a significant portion of his career.

Pedraza, who hails from San Sebastián de los Ballesteros in Córdoba, Spain, is set to play under new Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso. He brings a wealth of experience from his time at Villarreal, having made over 200 appearances for the club. During his tenure, he was part of the squad that won the Europa League in 2021 and reached the Champions League semifinals in 2022.

The player is known for his stamina and ability to cover the left flank effectively. Before establishing himself at Villarreal, Pedraza had loan spells at several clubs, including Lugo, Leeds United, Deportivo Alavés, and Real Betis. He has also represented Spain at various youth levels, winning the U-19 European Championship in 2015, and made his senior debut in October 2023.

Pedraza's arrival at Lazio comes at a turbulent time for the club. The team is undergoing a squad overhaul for the upcoming season, with a new coaching staff in place.
