Leaders of Kyrgyzstan and Tatarstan meet in Cholpon-Ata

Rustam Minnikhanov, head of Tatarstan, met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov after arriving in Cholpon-Ata for the closing ceremony of the 2026 World Nomad Games.

Minnikhanov praised the organization of the Games and their opening ceremony. “I was deeply impressed by the organization of the current Games and the spectacular opening ceremony. It will be very difficult for us to match your success, but we will certainly try,” he told Japarov.

Japarov expressed readiness to provide comprehensive support for organizing the World Nomad Games in Russia. The next Games are scheduled to take place in Kazan in 2028. Minnikhanov also congratulated Japarov on Kyrgyzstan’s hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s anniversary summit, which marked the SCO’s 25th anniversary.

The two sides discussed trade and economic cooperation between Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan. According to Minnikhanov, mutual trade grew by more than a third last year and exceeded $182 million. Their cooperation also includes biodiversity conservation, particularly efforts to preserve and increase the snow leopard population.

Minnikhanov thanked Japarov for his personal attention to strengthening ties between Tatarstan and Kyrgyzstan within the friendly relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
