Learn Skills Rarely Taught Elsewhere: Zagreb Offers a New Series of Workshops and Courses

Zagreb’s Public Open University is inviting residents to spend the autumn learning skills that range from shaping clay to playing guitar. Its new cycle of workshops covers ceramics, knitting, crochet, weaving, photography, jewelry-making and music.

The programs operate through the Kultura u Pučkom platform. The Rock Academy is enrolling students in guitar and synthesizer courses, with drum, bass guitar and singing workshops also announced. Each workshop has beginner and advanced levels.

Ceramics remains one of the institution’s longest-running arts programs. Students begin with the history of ceramics, materials, tools and practical work with clay. More advanced levels focus on complex forms, modeling from sketches and plans, and the development of an individual artistic approach. After completing the initial and two advanced levels, participants can join experimental sessions and create a ceramic object of their choice with professional support.

The jewelry program follows a similar path from technique to personal expression. Students learn metalworking methods including chasing, etching, soldering, acid treatment, shaping and joining elements, as well as working with enamel. The experimental jewelry workshop places greater emphasis on designing and producing original pieces. Both workshops are led by artist Davor Šuk and use small-group, individualized mentoring.

The university is also accepting pre-registrations for black-and-white analog photography and digital photography. The autumn program is presented as an opportunity to develop practical skills while creating individual work, whether in clay, metal, images or music.
