Lebanese soldier killed in Israeli attack amid escalation

At least one Lebanese soldier died Saturday from an Israeli airstrike targeting a road in southern Lebanon, marking an escalation in hostilities that has claimed over five lives today. The Lebanese army confirmed the soldier's death in a statement, identifying the attack as an "Israeli airstrike" on the Kfar Remman-Nabatieh road.

The military asserted that "brutal Israeli attacks against Lebanon continue," with the recent escalation impacting large areas of the south and reaching the Bekaa Valley in the east. The statement detailed significant casualties and material damage, suggesting the attacks aim to "obstruct any solution that allows the restoration of stability in Lebanon."

This soldier's death adds to the more than five individuals killed throughout the day by Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon. Israel has not yet commented on the military fatality. Since March 2, when Israel launched its offensive following Hezbollah's involvement in the wider conflict, approximately thirty Lebanese soldiers have been killed by Israeli forces.

The incident unfolds despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, announced Friday, which was reportedly part of a digital truce between Washington and Tehran. Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for any actions today and has not commented on the truce. Lebanon experienced one of its deadliest days recently on Friday, with 47 people killed by Israeli attacks, particularly in the south. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, since March 2, the Israeli offensive has resulted in 3,980 deaths and over 12,000 injuries.
