Lebanon Army Says Israeli Forces Fired Near Soldiers in South

Lebanon's military announced Tuesday that Israeli troops fired near its soldiers as they deployed in a designated withdrawal zone. The incident occurred as the Lebanese army began its deployment in areas Israel is slated to leave under a US-backed agreement. Israel's military responded that it fired "warning shots into the air" after Lebanese soldiers entered an area it claims was "not part of the pilot area," reporting no injuries.

The Lebanese army stated that its units began deploying in Zawtar al-Garhbiya in the Nabatieh region. An AFP correspondent observed military vehicles entering the village, which is on the edge of what Israel calls the "security zone." The Lebanese army command insisted that its troops were only deployed in Zawtar al-Garhbiya and that Israel should address any issues through the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon instead of carrying out attacks.

In a separate event, the Lebanese Red Cross reported that two rescuers were injured and an ambulance was severely damaged when a landmine exploded near a convoy heading to search for a missing person in an occupied area. The Red Cross stated it had obtained the necessary permits before entering and was working to ensure safe passage for the wounded paramedics. Lebanese state media also reported that Israeli forces briefly detained and released three men from the southern village of Shebaa.
