Lebanon's PM condemns Israel's destruction

Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has strongly condemned Israel's actions in southern Lebanon, labeling the destruction as a grave breach of international law. Salam asserted that Israel's systematic demolition of residential buildings, infrastructure, and public facilities constitutes a serious violation of international legal norms.

His statement came in response to comments made by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz during a visit to southern Lebanon. Katz had pledged to maintain Israeli soldiers within a designated security zone and indicated that the Israeli military (IDF) was actively destroying underground infrastructure and houses in the area.

Prime Minister Salam rejected any justification for such extensive destruction. "To claim that cities and villages are exclusively military facilities is contrary to all logic and cannot be used as an excuse to destroy them, displace residents, and prevent them from returning," Salam stated in a release following Katz's visit. He emphasized that these actions violate the rights of residents and hinder their ability to return to their homes.

The Lebanese government's condemnation highlights the escalating tensions and the severe impact of the conflict on civilian areas and infrastructure in southern Lebanon. The ongoing destruction raises significant humanitarian concerns and international legal questions regarding the conduct of military operations.
