Lech Poznań Secures Europa League Progress After Fog-Delayed Match in Faroe Islands

Lech Poznań achieved a successful outcome in their Europa League qualifying campaign, defeating KÍ Klaksvík on the Faroe Islands. The victory ensures their progression in the tournament, though it was preceded by significant travel challenges for the Polish club.

The team's journey to the Faroe Islands was hampered by dense fog at Vágar Airport. Originally scheduled to depart on Wednesday, their flight was postponed, leading to an overnight stay and a subsequent departure on Thursday. The flight from Poznań required a stopover in Bergen, Norway, due to persistent fog, before finally landing in Vágar late Thursday afternoon.

Consequently, the second-leg match, initially set for Thursday evening, was rescheduled by UEFA to Friday. Despite the logistical hurdles and playing on an artificial turf, Lech Poznań adapted well. They took the lead in the 20th minute through Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, who scored on the rebound after Mikael Ishak's shot was saved.

Captain Ishak was substituted at halftime due to an injury, which poses a concern for the team. However, Lech's offense proved potent in the second half. Pablo Rodriguez extended the lead in the 50th minute, followed by goals from Antoni Kozubal (75th minute), Daniel Håkans (89th minute), and Patrik Wålemark (90th minute) with a long-range strike. While the defense showed some lapses, including a goalkeeping error by Mateusz Lis, Lech managed to prevent the hosts from scoring.

Lech Poznań, alongside Jagiellonia Białystok, is competing for a spot in the Europa League. Both teams are guaranteed participation in the Conference League if they fail to advance further in the Europa League qualifiers. Other Polish clubs, Górnik Zabrze and Raków Częstochowa, are also competing in the European qualifiers.
