Lee Kang-in Nears Atletico Madrid Move; Announcement Expected This Week

South Korean footballer Lee Kang-in's transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Atletico Madrid is nearing completion, with an official announcement anticipated within the week. Spanish sports outlet Marca reported on July 15 that Atletico Madrid plans to finalize the signing and expects Lee to join team training sessions as early as next week.

The club reportedly wants Lee, who is seen as a key player for the 2026-27 season, to fully participate in preseason training. This suggests Lee could begin training with the team by the following Monday at the latest. Speculation about Lee's move to Atletico Madrid intensified after South Korea's early exit from the World Cup, with transfer fees becoming a focal point.

French media previously reported that PSG and Atletico Madrid had agreed on a transfer fee exceeding 40 million euros (around 70 billion won) for Lee, who joined PSG three seasons ago. Recently, an Atletico Madrid team doctor reportedly traveled to South Korea to conduct Lee's medical tests, further fueling the transfer rumors.

During his three seasons with PSG, Lee played 124 matches, scoring 16 goals and providing 16 assists. He also won multiple trophies, including two consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. However, Lee often found himself on the bench during crucial matches, including Champions League finals. Seeking more consistent playing time, he has reportedly decided to move to Atletico Madrid, a club that has shown interest in him for a considerable time. Lee is familiar with Spanish football, having developed in Valencia's youth system and debuted professionally with Valencia in 2019 before playing for Mallorca until 2023.
