Lee Sang-yup Wins KPGA Tour Season Opener, Ending 10-Year Drought

South Korean golfer Lee Sang-yup captured his long-awaited second career victory at the DB Insurance Promy Open, the season-opening event on the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour. The 32-year-old golfer achieved this milestone ten years after his debut win at the Munsingwear Matchplay in June 2016. His triumphant performance included setting new tournament records for the most strokes under par and the lowest overall score, underscoring his dominant display throughout the competition.

Lee began the final round trailing leader Kwon Sung-yeol by two strokes but unleashed a spectacular performance, carding eight birdies against two bogeys for a final round score of 6-under par 66. This brought his total score to an impressive 23-under par 265, securing a two-stroke victory over runner-up Ok Tae-hoon. Lee's remarkable play saw him surge to the sole lead early in the round with three consecutive birdies and continue his momentum with another three birdies in a row from holes 4-6. Despite a brief stumble with a bogey on the 8th hole, he regained his composure and extended his lead with birdies on holes 11 and 12.

While Lee celebrated his hard-earned victory, last year's KPGA Tour Genesis Grand Prize and money-list winner, Ok Tae-hoon, showcased a remarkable comeback in the final round, shooting a 8-under par 64 to secure the second position. Kwon Sung-yeol, who started the day in the lead, ultimately finished in a tie for third place at 16-under par. The tournament also saw the return of Jang Yu-bin from LIV Golf, who finished in a tie for 25th place.
