Leeds and Rangers co-owner jailed after prostitution arrest

A co-owner of Leeds United and Scottish football club Rangers has been jailed after being arrested in connection with prostitution.

The individual, identified as York, is part of the 49ers Enterprises consortium, an investment group linked to the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, where he serves as chief executive and principal owner. This consortium gained control of Rangers last year and has also increased its investment in Leeds United.

While York is involved with the ownership of these football clubs, he is not part of their day-to-day operations. Both Rangers and Leeds United have stated they will not be providing comments on the matter. A spokesperson for 49ers Enterprises commented, "As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time."

As an owner within the NFL, York is subject to league policies. The NFL confirmed they are "aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy." The 49ers Enterprises consortium completed a takeover of Rangers in May 2025, acquiring a controlling 51% stake in the Scottish Premiership club. They had previously invested in Leeds United in 2018, steadily increasing their stake before assuming full control in 2023.
