The maiden vessel call follows the launch of the Mediterranean West Africa Service, a new container service jointly operated by Hyundai Merchant Marine and Ocean Network Express. The collaboration brings the two global shipping lines to Lekki Port through a shared service connecting key ports across Europe and West Africa.

The HMM-ONE alliance service is a new container service jointly operated by Hyundai Merchant Marine and Ocean Network Express, known as the Mediterranean West Africa Service (MA2). This collaboration connects key ports across Europe and West Africa, offering Nigerian importers and exporters enhanced connectivity to major international markets. The service is expected to improve cargo movement and support more efficient trade flows.

Lekki Port Managing Director, Wang Qiang, stated that the maiden call underscores the port's growing reputation as a strategic hub capable of handling larger cargo volumes and supporting efficient supply chains. "The inclusion of Lekki Port in the new Mediterranean West Africa Service reflects the increasing confidence that leading global shipping lines have in our capabilities and the value we offer as a modern deep-sea port," Qiang said. He added that the service expands trade opportunities and strengthens Nigeria's connectivity to international markets.
