Leklebi-Agbesia, land of natural beauty, serenity

Nestled in Ghana's Afadzato South District of the Volta Region, Leklebi-Agbesia stands out for its exceptionally clean streets, lush green mountains, and the welcoming nature of its approximately 2,500 inhabitants. The community's serene environment, sometimes influenced by autumnal weather patterns due to the surrounding mountains, offers a tranquil escape.

Leklebi-Agbesia is a vital agricultural hub, often referred to as a food basket. It produces substantial quantities of cassava, yam, maize, cocoyam, and plantain, alongside tomatoes, garden eggs, okra, pepper, and beans. The community also thrives on cash crops like coffee, cocoa, and oil palm, with harvests readily sold in nearby towns such as Logba, Kpeve, Kpando, Hohoe, and Kpando-Torkor. Foodstuffs are a common sight for sale along the main street, reflecting the area's agricultural productivity.

Peace and strong community collaboration are hallmarks of Leklebi-Agbesia. The absence of chieftaincy disputes has significantly boosted productivity, and crime is virtually non-existent. Retired Deputy Superintendent of Police and community spokesman George Sampson Doh attributes the high level of cleanliness to strict environmental discipline inherited from German colonial authorities. He also highlights the strong collaboration with the Golokwati Police Station and the presence of a vigilante group as key factors in maintaining security.

The community boasts a highly educated population, with many professionals working both locally and abroad, influenced by the strong presence of the E.P. Church and the R.C. Church. Other denominations, including Assemblies of God, Global Evangelical Church, Church of Pentecost, and Apostolic Church of Ghana, are also present. Notably, the Muslim community lives in harmony with their neighbors. As a border community, residents sometimes greet visitors in French. The weather can be dramatic, with sudden heavy rains from the mountains followed by bright sunlight in cool temperatures.

Assembly Member Joseph Kofi Gakpo points out a need for a better football field. "Our young people have a strong passion for sports, particularly football. Unfortunately, our football pitch is frequently affected by flooding, making it difficult for our youth and local teams to use the facility effectively," he said. The community now has access to clean water, but improving sports facilities would help channel the youthful exuberance of its residents positively.
