Liberty Times' 'Teeth at Arm's Length' Series Wins Award for Excellence in Dental Journalism

Liberty Times is proud to announce that our investigative series, 'Teeth at Arm's Length' (咫尺天『牙』), has been honored with an Award of Excellence in the 'Taiwan Dental Medical and Public Welfare Reporting Awards.' This recognition from the Taiwan Dental Association underscores the significance of our work in highlighting critical issues within dental healthcare and public welfare.

Our series delved into the often-overlooked dental care needs of individuals with special requirements, such as those with physical or intellectual disabilities, critically ill children, and the elderly. We explored the systemic challenges in training specialized dentists and celebrated the unwavering commitment of those who provide essential services on the front lines. This focus was crucial in bringing these stories from a specialized field into mainstream public discourse.

We believe that access to dental care is a fundamental right, yet for many with special needs, a simple dental visit can be as complex and risky as a surgical procedure. Despite the limited patient numbers and the constraints of the national health insurance system, dedicated dentists continue to provide vital care. Through our reporting, we aimed to shed light on the importance of home-visit dental services and advocate for greater attention and resources for this underserved sector.
