Libya's Central Bank Governor Meets De La Rue CEO to Finalize New Currency Printing

In a significant development for Libya's financial infrastructure, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, convened with Clive Vacher, the CEO of the renowned British security printing company De La Rue. The high-level meeting, held in Washington D.C. on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings, centered on the critical task of printing new denominations of Libyan currency.

The meeting was held to follow up on the implementation of the Central Bank of Libya’s plan to print the new banknote denominations (5, 10, and 20 Libyan dinars) and to discuss the delivery schedule for the shipments as agreed upon by both parties.

The discussions specifically addressed the implementation of the Central Bank's strategy to introduce new 5, 10, and 20 Libyan dinar banknotes. A key outcome was the confirmation of the delivery schedule for these shipments, ensuring a timely supply of local currency to meet the needs of Libyan citizens. This initiative is particularly crucial as it aims to guarantee ample availability of cash before the upcoming Eid al-Adha, a period of heightened economic activity and demand.

Adding a notable achievement to the collaboration, De La Rue was honored with the High Security Printing EMEA International Forum Award. Their twenty-dinar banknote design was celebrated for its superior aesthetic appeal, printing quality, and advanced security features, earning it the title of the world's most beautiful currency design for 2025. This recognition not only highlights De La Rue's expertise but also reflects positively on the Central Bank of Libya's commitment to modernizing its currency with world-class standards. At the conclusion of the meeting, De La Rue presented the Governor with the High Security Printing EMEA International Forum Award for selecting the twenty-dinar edition, after this category won the award for the most beautiful currency design in the world for 2025, in terms of shape, printing quality, and level of protection and security.
