Libya’s Customs Authority to establish dedicated facility to expedite clearance of medicines & medical supplies

Libya's Customs Authority is set to establish a dedicated facility aimed at speeding up the clearance of vital medicines and medical supplies. The announcement follows a meeting between the Director General of Customs and the Chairman of the Medical Supply Organisation (MSO) on July 4.

The proposed facility is part of a broader initiative to streamline customs procedures for medical shipments. Discussions also covered implementing fast-track customs processes, forming joint inspection teams, enabling electronic data exchange, and employing risk-management mechanisms. Crucially, these measures will be implemented while maintaining stringent regulatory controls and ensuring the proper handling of temperature-sensitive products.

To move forward, both sides have agreed to form a joint technical team. This team will be responsible for developing a comprehensive implementation plan. The ultimate objective is to foster more efficient customs procedures and bolster the resilience of Libya's national medical supply chain, ensuring timely access to essential healthcare goods.
