Libya's oil corporation reports new attempted drone attack on fuel depot

Libya's National Oil Corporation has reported another attempted drone attack on fuel depots in Tripoli, less than a month after a tank holding 4.5 million liters of gasoline was destroyed 40 kilometers from the capital.

In response to repeated attacks on oil facilities in recent weeks, the NOC ordered fuel pumped to distributors to reduce storage levels as much as possible. It also activated emergency teams across infrastructure considered vulnerable to sabotage, according to a statement.

The state corporation called the latest attempt “a dangerous indicator” and said all security and military bodies must assume responsibility for protecting the sites. It warned that tampering with the facilities poses a real threat to civilians and drains the country's resources and assets.

The fuel supply supports power stations, health centers, industrial and service sectors, and the daily needs of the population. The NOC said the Brega Oil Marketing Company depots form its largest strategic storage infrastructure, supplying people through facilities distributed across the country.

The warning follows a series of drone attacks in August on energy and oil infrastructure in Zawiya, western Libya. The targets included a refinery, a desalination plant, several state electricity facilities, a telecommunications company and the offices of the Railway Authority.
