Liechtenstein’s Prince and Princess to attend King Harald’s funeral

Prince Alois and Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein will travel to Norway for King Harald V’s funeral on Sept. 9, Liechtenstein’s royal household confirmed to NTB.

It gives me pleasure to confirm that Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein will be present at the funeral of His Majesty King Harald of Norway on September 9.

Anja Nöstler, the household’s communications chief, said the heir apparent and his wife would attend the funeral of Norway’s king. The pair also attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.

The funeral will involve about 3,500 members of Norway’s armed forces. Around 1,900 soldiers will line the route from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral and onward to Akershus Fortress. Honor guards and military bands will account for 1,200 personnel, while 200 soldiers will handle flag duties in the capital and another 100 will provide salutes.

We are in the planning phase, but we also want to mark this.

Six generals and admirals, including Chief of Defence Eirik Kristoffersen, will join the procession carrying the coffin. Trains, trams and buses will stop for one minute around 1 p.m., when the cathedral ceremony begins. Vehicles will pull into the nearest safe stop or station, and trains will carry a message honoring King Harald.
