Lietkabelis Signs Swiss Star Alain Akintunde as Fifth Foreign Player

Panevėžys basketball club Lietkabelis has bolstered its roster by signing Alain Akintunde, a leader for the Swiss national team. The 191 cm tall guard, who can play both point guard and shooting guard positions, spent his entire career in the United States. For the past two seasons, Akintunde competed in the NBA G League, representing the development teams of the Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, and Brooklyn Nets. During his time in America, he averaged 8.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in 22 minutes of play. Although born in the U.S., Akintunde also holds Swiss citizenship and debuted for the national team in 2025. He has represented Switzerland in six official games, averaging 16 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. In recent FIBA World Cup qualifiers, he scored 19 points against Serbia and 23 points against Turkey. Akintunde is the fifth foreign player to join Lietkabelis this summer, following the signings of Keondre Kennedy, Ivan Fevrier, Veljko Ilić, and Miloš Ilić. The club has also extended contracts with Nojus Radžius and Gabrielius Maldūnas.
