Life-Size Portrait of Young Yun Bong-gil Unveiled at Memorial Hall

A life-size portrait of the young Yun Bong-gil will soon stand at the Yun Bong-gil Memorial Hall in Seoul, offering visitors a full-body image of the independence activist rather than the seated or half-length portraits more commonly seen before.

The Yun Bong-gil Memorial Foundation said it will hold the unveiling ceremony on the 9th at the memorial hall in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu. Artist Jeon Wan-sik created the work as a large 120-ho oil painting measuring 193.9 by 130.3 centimeters.

The portrait reflects Yun’s estimated height of 175 centimeters and presents him in a realistic full-body format. The foundation said the approach captures the spirit and vitality of Yun as a young man, while bringing greater realism to his image.

After the ceremony, the painting will be installed in the memorial hall’s second exhibition room and opened to the public. Foundation chairman Park Han-chul said, “Through the grandeur and realism of a life-size, detailed portrait, visitors will be able to experience the noble spirit of young Yun Bong-gil more intuitively.”
