Lifeguards Rescue Couple in Eforie Nord After Strong Currents Pull Them Out to Sea

A married couple from Iași had to be pulled from the sea in Eforie Nord after strong currents carried them offshore and left them unable to return to the beach on their own.

The rescue took place Sunday in the Vraja Mării area. Lifeguards said the man was in good condition. The woman, 62, received oxygen from first-aid teams on the beach before an SMURD ambulance transported her to hospital.

A yellow flag had flown on Eforie’s beaches earlier that morning, but conditions worsened during the day. Lifeguards then raised the red flag, which prohibits swimming, and urged tourists to follow their instructions rather than put their lives at risk.

The rescue came amid other incidents in the resort area. In mid-August, two brothers drowned in the resort of Olimp. In another incident in Eforie Nord, authorities said lifeguards pulled two 12-year-old children from the water.
