Lifeguards save mother and child from waves in Halkidiki

Lifeguards in Halkidiki, Greece, performed a life-saving rescue of a mother and her young child who were swept away by powerful waves. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Nea Plagia.

A large wave struck the mother, causing her to lose consciousness. Responding quickly, lifeguards administered oxygen and provided first aid for over 50 minutes until an ambulance arrived. The mother was reportedly in good condition when paramedics took her to the hospital.

We saw that she did not have enough oxygen, her saturation was around 50, we gave her oxygen and first aid for over 50 minutes and then the EKAV (ambulance service) arrived and took her in good condition.

Lifeguard Giorgos Dibinoudis noted that despite difficult conditions, the mother believed it was safe to enter the water. However, the waves near the shore proved dangerous. She was hit by a wave, fell face-first into the water, and was dragged inland. Fortunately, a bystander managed to hold her until the lifeguards arrived.

While trying to protect her child, the mother was hit by a second wave, sustaining serious injuries. She swallowed water, sand, and small stones. The immediate actions of the lifeguards were crucial, ensuring a positive outcome for both mother and child.
