Lightning Expected in the Afternoon: 'Can Be Intense at Times,' Says Meteorologist

Norway's Meteorological Institute, Yr, has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms expected across parts of Eastern Norway on Wednesday afternoon. The forecast indicates a significant risk of intense lightning, prompting advice for people to seek shelter.

There is a danger of thunderstorms with a lot of lightning on Wednesday afternoon.

Initially, the southern areas of Eastern Norway are most vulnerable. However, the storm cells are predicted to move northward as the evening progresses. By later in the evening, areas further north in the inland regions, as well as the Finnmark plateau and Pasvik areas, are expected to experience the brunt of the activity.

Meteorologist Marit Berger advised the public to seek shelter and avoid open areas. Adding to the concerns, Berger noted that in the northern regions, where the terrain is dry, there is a potential risk of forest fires ignited by lightning strikes. She also recommended monitoring Yr's lightning map for real-time updates on the storm's development.
