Likud MK Galit Distel-Atbaryan says she will not run in party primaries, next Knesset elections

Likud Member of Knesset Galit Distel-Atbaryan has declared she will not participate in her party's upcoming primaries nor seek a seat in the next Knesset elections. This announcement comes after a period of dedicated work on Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi's contentious media reform bill.

Speaking at the Communications Committee, Distel-Atbaryan expressed strong support for Karhi, suggesting he should hold a prominent position within the Likud party. Prior to her current role, she served as Israel's public diplomacy minister, a position she resigned from shortly after the October 7 massacre when its responsibilities were transferred to the Diaspora Affairs Ministry.

Recent polling among Likud's approximately 120,000 active members placed Distel-Atbaryan in a low 29th position. This ranking suggests she would have faced significant challenges in securing a Knesset seat in the upcoming elections. She joins a growing list of politicians departing the political arena, with former interior minister Moshe Arbel also recently announcing his exit.
