Lima assault suspect had over ten prior offenses for homicide, drug trafficking

The arrest of Walter Stuart Trujillo Ramírez, implicated in an armed assault on a money changer in Lima's La Merced church, has exposed his extensive criminal history. Police report the 30-year-old has more than ten prior offenses for serious crimes, including homicide, illicit drug trafficking, illegal firearms possession, and explosives manufacturing.

The incident occurred on Monday, June 22, after Trujillo allegedly robbed a money changer on Jirón de la Unión and attempted to flee. During the pursuit, he reportedly threatened a municipal security officer and assaulted a police officer who tried to apprehend him. Authorities eventually subdued and detained him, transferring him to the Criminal Investigation Division (Dirincri).

According to authorities, Trujillo Ramírez faced legal proceedings in various regions of Peru, including Lima Norte, Lima Este, Huaura, and Piura. While some investigations remain ongoing, others were archived. However, the sheer volume and severity of these past cases had placed him under police surveillance.

Following his arrest, the Seventh Corporate Criminal Prosecutor's Office of Cercado de Lima launched an investigation into the attempted assault within La Merced church. The Public Ministry has directed the National Police to collect witness statements and obtain surveillance footage from the area. Forensic analyses of the detainee and the seized firearm are also underway to determine his alleged role and identify any potential accomplices.
