Lima outlines requirements for driver's license reclassification

The Metropolitan Municipality of Lima (MML) has detailed the necessary steps for drivers wishing to reclassify their driving permits, a process that enables them to operate larger vehicles such as taxis, minibuses, and trucks. This administrative procedure is sought annually by hundreds of drivers aiming to upgrade their licenses to a higher category.

The process allows drivers to move to a higher category license and qualifies drivers to operate larger vehicles, such as taxis, minibuses, or trucks.

To successfully reclassify a license, drivers must meet several criteria. These include obtaining a passing score on a medical exam, a knowledge test, and a driving test, all of which must be registered in the National Driver System (SNC). Additionally, applicants must pay a processing fee of S/.14.70, providing proof of payment. They must also ensure they are not currently suspended or disqualified from driving and have no outstanding fines or sanctions.

For specific higher-class licenses (Class A categories III-c, II-a, II-b, III-a, III-b, III-c), drivers need a certificate of completion for the COFRIPO course, also registered in the SNC. The MML has specified that these services are available from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Users who wish to carry out this procedure must meet the following requirements: Medical certificate, knowledge test and driving test approved and registered in the National Driver System (SNC).

These license services, including reclassifications, renewals, and new applications, are processed at the Circuito Vial de Lima Norte facility, located at Jr. Flor de Arayanes 361 in the Comas district. The MML emphasized the importance of following the outlined procedures for a swift and secure application process.
