Lima police arrest couple with silencer-equipped pistol, suspecting contract killing links

Police in Lima, Peru, arrested a man and woman suspected of involvement in contract killings after a suspicious encounter with a patrol car. Kevin Romario Reyes Casas, 32, and Sheyla Trucios Tito, 30, were apprehended at the Venecia lodging house in San Martín de Porres. Investigators found two Glock pistols, one equipped with a silencer and laser sight, and a high-capacity magazine capable of holding 30 rounds. The second pistol had its serial number removed. General Víctor Revoredo, head of the Criminal Investigation Directorate, stated that the weapon with the silencer suggests its use in "sicario" activities, or contract killings. Reyes Casas, who had previously served time in Lurigancho prison from 2014 to 2018, told police he had the weapons since 6:15 p.m. and was tasked with delivering them to a gang for 1,000 soles. Police believe the suspects are members of the criminal gang "Los maleantes del Cono Norte," which is under investigation for extortion and contract killings. Revoredo vowed to continue pursuing and capturing gang members, regardless of their status.
