Lin Kuo-chang registers for Yilan magistrate race with a land dragon boat, backed by his smiling wife

Lin Kuo-chang entered Yilan’s magistrate race aboard a specially made land dragon boat, with party officials and supporters rowing alongside him. Standing at the dragon’s head as the boat moved toward the county government, Lin presented the spectacle as a symbol of a united team moving toward office.

Before registering, Lin visited Yilan City God Temple, a local religious center, where former classmates and teachers came to support him. Hundreds of residents gathered outside, waving flags and chanting “magistrate for everyone.” Lin solemnly reported his intentions at the temple and said he would serve with the enthusiasm of a genuine Yilan resident.

At the county council’s red-brick plaza, Lin and other DPP candidates formed the “Yilan Team.” They climbed onto the land dragon boat and moved along the brick path amid chants of support. Lin said Yilan was his home and that registration marked the beginning of a promise. He pledged to follow the City God’s principles of fairness and impartiality in government and to carry out his political vision.

His wife, Wang Chia-chen, became a warm focus of the event during her first public appearance alongside him. Wang, who worked for more than 30 years in the county government, said the responsibility was substantial but that Lin was ready. She also promised to take care of the family so he could focus on serving and protecting Yilan.

Lin said he would spend the next 87 days walking through all 237 villages and neighborhoods in Yilan to hear residents’ views in person. He asked voters for the opportunity to serve and promised to pursue his vision of a magistrate for everyone, helping Yilan move toward a new chapter.
