"Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I can't quite grasp the reality yet, or rather, I don't want to accept it," Messi wrote. Messi lamented the many experiences they would miss together, particularly his father's persistent wish for him to play in one last World Cup.

The footballer recounted how his father's condition worsened just days before the tournament began, marking the first time he wouldn't have him present.
