Lionel Messi’s contract with Inter Miami runs until December 31, 2028, according to data from Transfermarkt. The agreement gives him a reported annual base salary of $12 million.

His estimated total income is higher than that figure. Commercial agreements, a share of franchise earnings and compensation arranged directly with Major League Soccer bring the estimate to more than $50 million a year.

The contract was signed under MLS’s traditional calendar-year format. The league plans to change its schedule from summer 2027 to align with the calendar used by most European leagues.

That transition could bring Messi’s professional farewell forward to mid-2028, coinciding with the end of the first season played under the new international-style calendar. The report presents this as a possible earlier departure, rather than a confirmed change to his contract.

Messi joined Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023. Since then, the club has become the most media-focused franchise in the United States and has won the Leagues Cup in 2023, the Supporters’ Shield in 2024 and the MLS Cup in 2025.
