Lithuania: 1,000 locations still without power after storm

Lithuania is continuing extensive efforts to restore electricity to tens of thousands of households after a severe storm. Energy Minister Lukas Savickas announced that power has been restored to over 90,000 consumers since Saturday night. However, he acknowledged that restoring power to the remaining customers presents a significant challenge, with repair work ongoing at around 1,000 different locations. Savickas visited a repair site in Trakai district with ESO CEO Renaldu Radvila to assess the situation. He emphasized the time-consuming nature of the repairs, noting that restoring power to a single section can take four hours or more. The minister also highlighted the importance of clear communication with residents about expected restoration times, enabling them to plan their activities. ESO CEO Renaldu Radvila stated that the storm caused over 3,500 incidents, such as downed power lines due to trees. At its peak, 262,000 consumers were without power, a number reduced to 174,000 by Sunday. He added that repair work was hampered by strong winds exceeding 15 m/s on Saturday, forcing crews to prioritize safety and only address damage that could be repaired securely.
