Lithuania has emerged as a top global destination for individuals considering relocation, securing the sixth position worldwide in the 2026 Global Relocation Index. This ranking places the Baltic nation ahead of many traditional emigration choices and highlights its growing appeal for international movers and investors.

The index, compiled by the international real estate and relocation consultancy Rumavi, assessed 192 countries and territories. It used 24 indicators across four main categories: financial and tax environment, quality of life and health, safety and stability, and settlement and professional opportunities. Data from sources like the World Bank, Mercer, the Global Peace Index, and World Governance Indicators informed the evaluation.

Estonia claimed the top spot with 72.8 points, particularly excelling in its banking system, business opportunities, and favorable property rights for foreigners. Lithuania followed closely, earning 71.0 points, the same as Hong Kong, which ranked seventh. Lithuania's higher placement was attributed to specific criteria, including its abundant green spaces and well-developed banking and financial services infrastructure, as noted by Euronews.

The index considered more than just cost of living and taxes. It also factored in housing affordability, healthcare quality, safety, air quality, political stability, business creation opportunities, ease of property acquisition for foreigners, and the process for obtaining permanent residency. Separate rankings for families, retirees, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads were also released, with Estonia topping the list for families.
