Lithuania and Germany Issue First Joint Postage Stamp

Lithuania and Germany have issued their first joint postage stamp, a collaborative project by their respective postal services that commemorates their shared cultural heritage and long-standing historical ties. "This postage stamp reminds us that culture and art connect countries even when history has separated them," said Aušrutė Varnienė, head of philatelic projects at Lietuvos paštas (Lithuanian Post). "We are delighted about this first joint project with the German Post, which celebrates the significance of the Nida artists' colony in European art history and simultaneously strengthens Lithuanian-German cultural dialogue." The stamp, with a face value of 2.05 euros, has a print run of 50,000 copies. It depicts the 1937 painting "Valley of Dunes with Dead Tree" by German expressionist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. The joint issue underscores the enduring cultural connections between the two nations, transcending historical divisions and fostering a deeper appreciation for their shared artistic legacy.
