Lithuania Faces Dangerous Weather Warnings: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Forecast

Lithuania can expect cloudy skies and rain on Tuesday, with the national meteorological service issuing warnings for dangerous weather phenomena in several regions. Eastern areas are forecast to experience significant rainfall, while western parts of the country may see short, localized showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

Elvyra Latvėnaitė, a meteorologist, explained that the remnants of Cyclone Margarete are still affecting the country. "Rain clouds from the cyclone traveling southeast of us will affect a larger part of Lithuania in the south and east, and even part of central Lithuania. It will rain much more here – it will be constant and heavy, but the chance of thunderstorms will be small," she stated. In contrast, the western and southwestern regions might experience brief showers with thunderstorms.

Dangerous weather warnings are active for parts of the country. The regions of Alytus, Vilnius, and Utenas are under a severe rain warning from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thunderstorms are also possible in Klaipėda, Tauragė, Marijampolė, Kauno, Alytus, Vilnius, and Utenas. Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, unplug appliances, and avoid open areas and metal structures outdoors. Drivers are cautioned to reduce speed and increase following distance due to reduced visibility and wet road conditions.

Looking ahead, Wednesday is expected to bring calmer weather with less rain, though cooler temperatures will persist. Fog is also possible overnight. Thursday will see a slight increase in warmth, with temperatures reaching up to 24 degrees Celsius in some areas, but this will be accompanied by more active rainfall and potential thunderstorms, particularly in western Lithuania.
