Lithuania Fully Restores Mobile Services After Storm

Mobile phone services in Lithuania have returned to normal after last week’s storm, the country’s Communications Regulatory Authority, known as RRT, said.

Telia and Tele2 had already restored their networks by Friday, while Bitė has now completed its recovery work. RRT said all of Bitė’s base stations are operating and that no customers affected by the storm remain without service.

The recovery is not yet entirely independent of emergency power. Twenty-eight base stations are still running on generators while regular electricity supplies are restored. RRT said power and other infrastructure failures caused most of the disruption during the storm.

“Today we can say that communications in Lithuania have returned to their normal rhythm after the storm. The most important thing is that there are no storm-related communication service disruptions today,” said Darius Kuliešius, deputy chairman of the RRT council.

The storm, which began on Saturday, brought down trees in many parts of Lithuania. One person died and four were injured, while power outages affected more than 268,000 users.
