Lithuania prepares for Žolinė celebrations with nationwide events

Lithuania is gearing up for the traditional celebration of "Žolinė" (Herb Day) on August 15, with a diverse range of events planned nationwide. The Vilnius University Botanical Garden in Kairėnai will be the central venue for a large family festival, "Žolinėk '26," designed to immerse attendees in the customs and traditions associated with the holiday.

This year's celebration at the botanical garden is particularly special as it coincides with the garden's 245th anniversary. Visitors can expect a rich program featuring ethnologists Gražina Kadžytė and Libertus Klimka, who will guide participants through the significance of Žolinė. The event will also showcase dozens of herbalists from across Lithuania presenting their medicinal plants, alongside a vibrant fair of artisans and food vendors offering herbal teas and local delicacies.

The festival promises a blend of education, culture, and entertainment. Activities will include workshops on herb gathering and usage, lectures on the importance of plants in human life and health, and a "Sauna Laboratory" demonstrating Lithuanian sauna traditions. Musical performances by duos and bands will add to the festive atmosphere, while children can enjoy dedicated activities in the "Children's Meadow." The event aims to provide a comprehensive experience, connecting nature, tradition, creativity, and relaxation.
