Lithuania Proposes Delaying Counter-Mobility Measure Deadlines

Lithuania's Ministry of National Defence is proposing an update to its counter-mobility measures plan, suggesting an extension for several key projects. Counter-mobility measures are military tactics designed to impede enemy movement.

The proposed changes would push back the completion dates for constructing obstacle parks near the borders with Belarus and the Kaliningrad region, as well as for installing road barriers. The ministry aims to have these obstacle parks operational by the end of 2028. Additionally, the restoration of wetlands in areas selected by the military is now slated for completion by the end of 2030.

Other significant infrastructure projects include the establishment of a counter-mobility line along the border by the end of 2028. Furthermore, new and existing bridges are to be equipped with special structures designed for their demolition. The plan also involves installing reserve barriers and structures for attaching explosives on roads and bridges by the end of 2028.

Specific regional works are planned for the Šakiai and Vilkaviškis districts by the end of next year, focusing on the design and restoration of ditches and streams. The ministry's updated plan reflects a strategic approach to enhancing national defense capabilities through infrastructure development and obstacle deployment.
