Lithuania's Defense Funds Primarily Spent in Second Half of Year

Lithuania's Ministry of National Defence explained that spending approximately 30 percent of its defense budget in the first half of the year is standard practice. The majority of funds are typically allocated to the latter half of the year due to the timing of major contract signings and essential payments.

Significant expenditures are planned for the end of the year, covering large-scale projects and ongoing contracts. A primary focus will be on enhancing air defense capabilities and strengthening the military's expanding units. Additionally, Lithuania will fulfill its commitments related to hosting foreign troops and forces.

The largest part of the funds is usually used in the second half of the year. This is because large contracts are concluded then. At the same time, the most important payments are made. At the end of the year, payments will be made for the largest projects and ongoing contracts.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė emphasized the importance of diligent work during the remaining six months to ensure the effective and appropriate use of allocated funds. This proactive approach aims to maximize the impact of defense investments.
