Lithuania to Digitize Workplace Accident Reporting from 2027

Starting May 1, 2027, Lithuania will transition to a fully digital system for reporting workplace accidents. This change is expected to streamline the process for both employers and the State Labour Inspectorate (VDI), according to Deputy Minister of Social Security and Labour, Aušra Putk.

"The data shows that the majority of workplace accident reports are still submitted in paper form, leading to additional administrative work for both employers and VDI employees," Putk stated. "Electronic submission will allow processes to move faster, more conveniently, and more efficiently, freeing up more time for prevention of employee safety and health."

The new regulations will also extend the duration for investigating workplace accidents from 10 to 15 working days. Additionally, individuals involved in the investigation will no longer be required to sign the report. Until the new system takes effect, current methods for submitting accident reports and related documents to the VDI will remain in place.

According to ministry data, the VDI receives approximately 8,000 reports annually concerning accidents at work or during commutes. The overwhelming majority, 96 percent, are still submitted on paper, highlighting the need for this digital transformation.
