Lithuania to host new ammunition factory in major defense industry deal with Ukraine

Lithuania is poised to become a significant regional hub for defense manufacturing with the upcoming signing of a memorandum of intent between the Ministry of National Defence and Ukrainian company DEMZ. This agreement signals a major investment in a new ammunition factory within Lithuania, positioning it as a central location for DEMZ's production and innovation efforts in the region.

The planned facility is not only intended for the manufacturing of ammunition but also for the research, development, and testing of new products that meet NATO standards. This strategic move aligns with Lithuania's broader defense goals and its commitment to strengthening the capabilities of allied nations.

The signing ceremony is expected to be attended by high-ranking Lithuanian officials, including Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas, and Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas. A representative from the Ukrainian company DEMZ will also be present, underscoring the collaborative nature of this venture.

This initiative builds upon previous discussions between Lithuania and Ukraine regarding defense cooperation. The Lithuanian Minister of National Defence has previously indicated that the two countries are working together to establish domestic production of drones, specifically for use by Ukraine in its ongoing conflict.
