Lithuania to launch platform for foreigners learning Lithuanian

Lithuania is set to launch "startLT.lt," a new online platform designed to assist third-country nationals in learning the Lithuanian language and integrating into society. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture, will commence in September.

Culture Minister Luksas Alsys announced that the platform aims to equip newcomers with essential Lithuanian language skills for everyday life. He anticipates that the platform will attract approximately 6,300 learners within its first three years of operation. "This project is essentially aimed at this (minority and immigrant) problem," Alsys stated, emphasizing its role in addressing the integration challenges faced by those arriving in Lithuania for various reasons.

This project is essentially aimed at this (minority and immigrant) problem. For people who come here, to Lithuania, for various reasons, this is a platform, with 14 partners - higher education institutions, institutes - created for learning the Lithuanian language.

The "startLT.lt" platform is a collaborative effort involving 14 partner higher education institutions and institutes. It will serve as a primary resource for foreigners residing in or planning to move to Lithuania. Users will find information on Lithuanian language proficiency requirements, available learning opportunities, state-supported courses, and registration procedures. Additionally, the site will offer details on Lithuanian language and Constitution exams, proficiency tests, and self-study tools.

Beyond language acquisition, the platform will also provide insights into Lithuanian history, culture, traditions, and societal knowledge. The project specifically targets third-country nationals and stateless persons legally present in Lithuania who intend to live, work, study, and integrate into the community. Funding for the project, titled "Creation and Implementation of a Centralized Lithuanian Language Learning Registration System and Information Platform," comes from the 2021–2027 Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund.
