The Lithuanian theatre community mourns the loss of acclaimed actress Genovaitė Vaiginytė, who passed away on August 6 at the age of 91. Vaiginytė was a cherished member of the Šiauliai Drama Theatre for nearly 25 years, leaving an indelible mark on the institution and its audiences.

Almost a quarter of a century – from 1966 to 1991 – her creative path was inseparable from the Šiauliai Drama Theatre. Here her brightest roles matured, her most mature creative years passed, and she left a deep mark on the theatre's history and the audience's memory.

From 1966 to 1991, Vaiginytė graced the Šiauliai Drama Theatre stage, where she developed her most significant roles and spent her most creative years. The theatre's representatives remembered her as an actress of exceptional stage culture, noted for her musicality, strong vocal abilities, and nuanced psychological portrayals. Her precise diction and elegant demeanor were hallmarks of her performances.

Vaiginytė often portrayed intelligent and dramatic female characters, showcasing her sensitivity, discipline, and skill in creating compelling personalities. Throughout her tenure at the Šiauliai Drama Theatre, she performed in over ninety productions. Memorable roles included those in "Cherry Blossom" (1974), "Seaside Resort" (1975), "Donja Rosita" (1976), "Resurrection" (1977), "Sweet Burden of Loyalty" (1982), and "The House of Bernarda Alba" (1982).
