Lithuanian border guards turn back two migrants in 24 hours

Lithuanian border guards turned back two irregular migrants at the country’s border with Belarus during the previous 24 hours, the State Border Guard Service said.

Latvian border officials reported that they had stopped 19 foreigners from entering the country on Sunday. Polish officials said they had recorded no such people the previous day.

Lithuanian officials said they prevented more than 1,650 people from entering through unauthorized locations last year and 1,394 this year. Since the migration crisis linked to Belarus began, Lithuania says it has turned back about 26,000 irregular migrants.

Migrants began arriving in larger numbers at the eastern European Union borders in 2021. Western countries blamed the Minsk regime for the situation.
