Lithuanian energy professionals balance work and study to advance careers

In Lithuania, a growing number of energy sector professionals are balancing demanding careers with advanced studies, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning. This year, two dozen employees across the EPSO-G group, which includes Lietuvos Energija and other energy companies, successfully completed various levels of university education while maintaining their full-time positions.

Tomas Kardelis, a leading engineer in the gas compressor department at "Amber Grid," returned to university after a 15-year career break. He pursued studies in energy technology and economics, driven by the rapid changes in the energy sector and the increasing significance of hydrogen technologies. Kardelis is now applying his academic insights to his work, evaluating technical solutions for natural gas infrastructure by considering not only reliability but also investment costs, operational expenses, risks, and long-term economic viability.

Martynas Urbonas, a substation engineer at "Litgrid," recently finished his master's degree in electrical power engineering. He described his five-year "break from studies" as a significant challenge, especially when starting his new role at Litgrid concurrently with his academic commitments. Urbonas emphasized the need for determination and self-conviction to manage both work and study, highlighting the crucial support received from his direct supervisor, family, and colleagues.

Gabija Pšebarauskaitė, a high-voltage line designer at "Tetas," also earned her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Kaunas University of Technology while working. These individuals exemplify a dedication to professional growth, underscoring the value placed on advanced education within Lithuania's evolving energy industry.
