Lithuanian Ethics Commission Finds Politician Violated Conduct Rules Over Doctored Photo

Lithuanian politician Remigijus Žemaitaitis has been found to have breached the code of conduct for politicians. The Seimas (parliament) Ethics Commission ruled that Žemaitaitis violated the rules by sharing a manipulated photograph on social media and employing uncensored language. The doctored image depicted a woman holding a poster with altered content.

The Ethics Commission decided that Remigijus Žemaitaitis violated the politicians' code of conduct.

The commission's decision saw 8 members voting in favor of the violation, with one against and two abstentions. However, there was disagreement among commission members regarding further action. Dalia Asanavičiūtė-Gružauskienė proposed initiating impeachment proceedings against Žemaitaitis, but this motion received support from only three members. In contrast, Lilija Vaitiekūnienė argued that the violation did not warrant impeachment.
