Lithuanian government approves more language classes for minority schools

The Lithuanian government has endorsed a proposal to enhance the teaching of the Lithuanian language within schools serving national minorities. This decision aims to bolster the integration of the state language among students from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport put forward the plan, which will see an increased number of Lithuanian language and literature lessons in primary education programs for minority students. This move is seen as a step towards ensuring greater proficiency in the national language across all segments of the student population.

To facilitate this educational adjustment, the government has earmarked 785,000 euros for the current year. This funding is intended to support the implementation of the new curriculum, potentially covering resources, teacher training, and other necessary expenditures to ensure the successful rollout of the increased language instruction.
