Lithuanian Parliament Speaker doesn't rule out presidential run

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament, has acknowledged the possibility of her running for president in 2029. However, she stressed that any such considerations are premature, suggesting that the current political focus should remain on the upcoming 2027 municipal elections and the 2024 parliamentary elections.

I am not ruling out such an idea, but in my opinion, it is too early to start now and all solid political parties understand that the most important elections now are the 2027 municipal elections and we should think about them.

"Starting too early usually brings no success for anyone," Čmilytė-Nielsen stated in a radio interview. She believes that solid political parties understand the importance of prioritizing the 2027 municipal elections. The presidential elections are scheduled for May 2029, a date she considers distant enough to warrant a focus on more immediate electoral contests.

Regarding potential candidates from other parties, Čmilytė-Nielsen indicated that the Liberal Movement party will not be evaluating them. Instead, the party intends to concentrate its efforts on supporting and promoting its own candidate for the presidential election. This approach suggests a strategic focus on internal party development and candidate selection ahead of the 2029 race.
