Lithuanian Police Release Footage of Officers Attacked by Axe-Wielding Man

Lithuanian police in Šiauliai have released video footage capturing the violent arrest of a man who attacked officers with an axe. The incident occurred on the morning of June 11 when police responded to a domestic violence call in Kriukai village, Joniškis district.

Upon arrival, officers encountered an aggressive individual armed with an axe. While police successfully disarmed the suspect using specialized equipment, he continued to resist arrest and refused to comply with their commands. During the ensuing struggle, the man injured two officers.

The Šiauliai County Police statement underscored the inherent risks of police work, noting that officers face aggression and danger even when responding to calls for assistance. "Every call can be unpredictable, so officers' work requires not only professionalism but also preparedness to act in dangerous situations," the police stated. Both injured officers, born in 1994 and 1989, received medical attention and are being treated as outpatients.

The suspect, born in 1977, reportedly refused to undergo an alcohol breath test and was subsequently detained. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges and dangers law enforcement officers confront daily.
