Lithuanian Public Figure and Partisan Commander's Daughter Montvydaitė-Giedraitienė Dies

Lithuania mourns the loss of Irena Bronislava Montvydaitė-Giedraitienė, a respected public figure and the daughter of partisan commander Montvydas. Her passing was announced on social media, marking the end of a life dedicated to preserving the memory of Lithuania's freedom fighters.

Montvydaitė-Giedraitienė was honored for her significant contributions to Lithuania with the Order of the Cross of the Knight of the Republic of Lithuania. Despite a childhood marked by repression under the Soviet regime, she devoted her life to safeguarding the history of the Lithuanian partisans' struggle and fostering respect for their participants.

Speaker of the Seimas, Juozas Olekas, extended his condolences to her family, colleagues, and members of the Union of Soldiers of the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union. He emphasized that her work in commemorating the freedom fighters and her loyalty to their values will remain a vital part of Lithuania's historical memory.

Those wishing to pay their respects can attend a viewing on Monday from 2 p.m. at the Jurbarkas Funeral Home. A Holy Mass will be offered on Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Church in Jurbarkas, followed by the burial at the old Jurbarkas cemetery.

Although the repressions of the Soviet occupation regime took away her peaceful childhood and forced her to grow up under a false name, she dedicated her entire life to preserving the memory of the Lithuanian partisans' struggles, fostering the history of the freedom fights, and strengthening respect for their participants. Her work, her care in immortalizing the memory of the freedom fighters, and her loyalty to the values for which they fought will remain a significant part of our state's historical memory. I sincerely sympathize with the deceased's relatives and all who knew her, worked with her, and will continue her meaningful work.
