Lithuanian Registry Center Head Resigns Amid Data Breach Investigation

Lithuania's Center of Registers is investigating a significant data breach that exposed more than 600,000 records from its Real Estate Register. The incident, which occurred last week, involved unauthorized third parties illegally accessing and copying data by using the login credentials of a legitimate data recipient.

Officials confirmed that the breach involved the creation of registry extracts that revealed personal data. However, the Center of Registers stated that no contact information, payment details, or sensitive documents like property transfer agreements or court decisions were compromised. The estimated initial damage to the Center of Registers is at least 111,000 euros.

The leader of the conservative party, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, announced plans to request an extraordinary parliamentary security committee meeting and questioned the minister's continued role in the government. Jusas subsequently resigned on May 25, with Giedrius Cininas appointed as interim head.
